August Second Saturday
Natural Dyes
In the past, plants provided the dyes used to color fibers woven into cloth. The earliest known dyed fibers date to 2000 B.C. in Egypt. Many plants yield colorful dyes when crushed and heated in water. What plants and plant parts can be used as dyes? Participants will learn about common natural dyes, roam the garden and chose some plants for experimentation.
We’ll finish with a naturally tie-dyed creation!
Be ready to get messy as you create your own natural dyes from plants!
Reservations recommended. Ages 6 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $5 per child and member adult; nonmember adults cost $8 each. Call 692-2874 for reservations.
